Tyra Banks has landed the coveted spot as the cover girl for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2019 magazine. It is her modeling comeback full of hot photos, proving Banks has still got it at age 45.

She was the first black model to grace the cover back solo in 1997. Now over two decades later, Banks is pulling out all the stops as she comes out of modeling retirement. Banks revealed her new cover and talked about recreating the cover, where she made history all those years ago.

“My first one was 23 years ago, how crazy is that! I’m like damn, I’m 45” she shared on the morning show.

Banks first appeared on an SI Swimsuit cover alongside swimsuit model Valeria Mazza in 1996. She has become a cultural force in the modeling world, helping break a slew of barriers. To come out of retirement for an exclusive shoot, former America’s Next Top Model host, decided it would be great to recreate her first solo cover.

The swimsuit was no longer available, so Banks decided to pay homage to the shoot. She went back to the Bahamas to get the iconic shot, which she did, and she looks fabulous.

“We couldn’t find the exact one in the archive. It was the polka dot bikini, so we recreated that bikini. I recreated the shoot, 25 pounds heavier,” the model explained.

Tyra Banks is one of three models getting a solo cover for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2019 issue. Olympic gold medalist and USA National Women’s Soccer player, Alex Morgan has her own cover. Sports Illustrated 2018 Model Search winner, Camille Kostek is the third lady to grace a solo cover. She is also Sports Illustrated 2019 Rookie of the Year.

Although she came out of modeling retirement for her cover, Banks has not revealed if she is going to continue to pursue modeling or if it was a one-time deal. The model looks just as good as she did years ago in the hot photos steaming up the Internet. Banks is exceptionally proud of how she pulled off the cover shoot, as well as being able to be part of such an iconic shoot years after it all began.
