Hollywood’s loudest environmentalist has brought much attention to the problems facing our planet; however, he has also been seen boarding copious private jets and lounging on private yachts around the world. Which leads us to wonder — Is Leonardo Dicaprio even taking his own advice?

While DiCaprio has been spotted boarding private jets on far more than one occasion, there is no record of him having one in his own personal Jet.

But whether or not he personally owns a private jet, or is using a charter service, hasn’t been much of a worry to those who have begun to heavily criticize him.

What The Critics Are Saying

Although many new sites have relentlessly criticised Dicaprio’s private jet use, his biggest and harshest critics are the everyday people on platforms such as Twitter.

In one tweet, a person claims to not be able to hear Dicaprio over his “enormous carbon footprint blocking the speakers.”

Another user posted pictures of Dicaprio lounging on a yacht with the sarcastic caption “The sacrifices he makes for his beliefs!”

These comments, and many more, show how many feel towards environmentalists like Dicaprio who have acquired copious wealth and fame before or during their time as environmental activists and then use that wealth in ways that are hypocritical to their global change messages.

How Has Dicaprio Responded?

Dicaprio has yet to make any sort of formal response to the intense backlash he is receiving; however, his actions are saying enough.

Likely in response to the intense criticism relating to his private jet use, Dicaprio has now been spotted boarding commercial flights out of JFK Airport, with more commercial flights likely to follow. It appears the criticism may have gotten to him and we will see if this latest change sticks with any sort of permanency. If so, it will be a testament to the power of the common critic. 

Although he attempted to mask his identity by cloaking himself in all black and donning a hat which covered his eyes, he was forced to reveal his face to TSA. His girlfriend Camila Morrone’s bright red coat also didn’t help to keep the couple under the radar. 

This attempt at masking his identity is common for him, and many other Hollywood stars during commercial travel, however, his presence on the commercial flight still makes a statement. And the attempt at hiding was likely more due to hoping for a reprieve from speculation surrounding his actions. And could show that he has heard what critics have said and feels a level of guilt regarding previous actions.

But What About Climate Change?

The criticism surrounding Dicaprio’s use of private jets will eventually dissipate, especially if he continues to fly commercial. His work for the environment, however, has made and continues to make a lasting impact. 

Over the course of his environmental career, Dicaprio has donated millions to organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund and has brought copious attention to the global climate change issue by participating in the environmental documentary “Before the Flood.”
