Demi Lovato is one of the top pop superstars of this century and has had a number of high-profile relationships with other celebrities. Given the longevity of some of her more famous relationships, people might be wondering if Demi Lovato has kids.

Demi Lovato does not have any kids. Despite hailing from a large family (the songstress has three siblings) and having dated extensively, the star appears to be focusing on herself and her career, and has not had any children thus far.

A Blended Family

Demi Lovato was born in 1992 and her parents divorced a couple years after her birth. She has one older sister from her parents’ marriage and through her parents’ various post-divorce relationships and marriages, she has two half-siblings.

Despite having a difficult childhood where she suffered from bullying, Demi Lovato thrived as a child actor, getting her start on Barney and Friends. The multi-talented Lovato went on to fame working on the Disney Channel, where she would meet her first high-profile boyfriend.

Camp Rock Connection

During the filming of Camp Rock, Demi Lovato co-starred with Joe Jonas, of The Jonas Brothers fame. While filming a kissing scene with the boy bander, Demi revealed that she fell in love with Joe Jonas in real life, noting, “This is the moment I friggin’ fell in love with him, in real life. I wasn’t acting much. We had our first kiss on camera.”

Though Lovato and Jonas’ romance was short-lived, it was well-documented, catching the attention of publications such as People magazine. Jonas was the one to end the relationship, though he publicly showed affection for Lovato, saying, “In this business, it’s really hard to find people who are going to be there for the rest of your life. When I met Demi, I knew right away that our friendship was really strong. I don’t want to lose that ever.”

First Love and Falling Apart

Demi Lovato’s next high-profile relationship (and her longest partnership to date) was with That ‘70s Show star, Wilmer Valderrama. The couple met while filming a PSA about voting, and despite a 12-year age gap between the two, Lovato and Valderrama fell deeply in love.

When discussing the relationship with reporters, Lovato said of their initial meeting, “I was like, ‘I love this man and I have to have him,’ but I was only 17 and so, he was like, ‘Get away from me.'” Regardless of Valderrama’s initial hesitation, the couple dated on and off for six years.

Teen Rebellion and Vicious Vices

In the midst of Lovato’s romantic entanglements, the songstress was dealing with personal and professional pitfalls. Lovato was fired from touring with the Jonas Brothers when she punched a backup dancer in the face.

This was one of many incidents for tabloid fodder, with Demi Lovato attending rehab multiple times due to drug addiction, an eating disorder and mental health issues. The pop star was honest about her struggles, saying, “I lived fast and I was going to die young. I didn’t think I would make it to 21.”

Though Valderamma stuck by her side for many of these dark times, Lovato and Wilderamma broke up for good in 2016. Following the split, Lovato reached career highs, but hit an all-time personal low.

In July of 2018, Lovato suffered from a near-fatal overdose and was rushed to the hospital, where she remained for over a week. During her recovery, the star took to Instagram to release a statement, thanking her fans and telling them, “The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting.”

Family in the Future?

Since her overdose, Demi Lovato has continued to focus on her recovery and her career. She has a new album in the works and though she has not publicly dated anyone, Lovato is not opposed to starting a family, telling Andy Cohen, “I don’t know what my future looks like. I don’t know if I’m going to have kids this year or in 10 years. I don’t know if I’m going to do it with a partner or without. ‘Cause women, we don’t need partners to – ya know, amen!”
