On Sunday we got to go to 5 Seconds of Summer’s Sounds Live Feels Live show in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was epic, so we’d thought we would let you know what we thought!

After a lot of rain, the sky cleared just in time for the concert to start. Ashton discovered that it’s not exactly a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow…

Roy English
At 7:20, the lights went out, and it was time for the first performer: Roy English. He is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles. Although his set was only 20 minutes long, it was excellent. Dressed in a grey t-shirt and black ripped skinny jeans, he was extraordinarily impressive for a first opener. He has a lovely voice, the music was good, and his stage presence was wonderful. By the end of his set, almost all of the people in the pit were jumping and dancing around. His best song was “Wasted Youth,” which was an upbeat, fun jam.
Hey Violet
The other opening band was Hey Violet. Arguably one of the biggest-growing bands, opening for 5 Seconds of Summer has helped grow their fanbase. Nia Lovelis found New Mexico to be particularly nice, while Casey Moreta found the sunset to be particularly beautiful:

Their sound is a bit like Paramore. Rena’s voice is especially like Hayley Williams’s. The energy on stage was incredible. Rena was like a bumblebee, if bumblebees had very cool pink hair, bouncing around the stage and looking like she was having the time of her life. Nia smashed it on the drums, literally and figuratively, all while wearing a shirt that said, “Kiss the boys and make them cry.”
Their setlist was longer, about forty minutes. They opened with their song “Brand New Moves,” which is funky and fun. They performed a few more of their songs, as well as a cover of “Don’t Let Me Down.” They closed with “Fuqboi,” which was the perfect way to close their set. It’s so upbeat and a great song to dance to that everyone in the venue was jumping and singing along. Overall, their set was energetic and enjoyable.
5 Seconds of Summer
Last but not least, 5 Seconds of Summer performed. About an hour and a half of insane music sums up their set pretty well. When the lights went off, everyone started screaming. They opened with “Hey Everybody,” a nice sing-along jam that got everyone dancing.
Another great song to hear live is “Girls Talk Boys.” Hearing Luke on the piano is really incredible, and the funky feel of the song is different from a lot of their other music, making it a cool one to hear in person.
Some highlights of the concert included Michael talking about how hard it is to spell Albuquerque (not arguing on that one), and how he’s determined to make a Breaking Bad joke before the end of the set.
Another highlight occurred before “Jet Black Heart.” Michael was on stage by himself, and the crowd screamed for over two minutes until the song started:

They closed the show with “She’s Kinda Hot” and “She Looks So Perfect,” two of their biggest songs, both of which brought down the house. No one wanted the concert to end, so the screaming just got louder and the boys got even more energized. Overall, the boys sounded great and the concert was unforgettable. We can’t wait for them to come back!
