Originally from Montebello, California, Robert Ralston (born July 2, 1938) is an American pianist and organist who was a regular performer on television’s The Lawrence Welk Show from 1963 until 198Bob Ralston is a native of California who attended Wheaton College on a full music scholarship before returning home to complete his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California, where he received a bachelor’s degree in music composition and accompaniment. In 1964, he graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Music degree. The Coconut Grove nightclub in Los Angeles, where Welk asked him to appear as a guest musician on his programme in 1962, was his home base during his undergraduate years (1959-1962). He performed six nights a week with the Freddy Martin orchestra during his student years (1959-1962). That arrangement continued until the summer of 1963, when he was employed on a permanent basis at the company. Bob Ralston’s piano and organ solos are featured prominently on the Welk television programmes, which also often include his talents as a singer, dancer, and comic. He composed music for the Music Makers and continued to play for them live and on television until 1982, when he announced his retirement from active performance. The musician has recorded hundreds of albums throughout the course of his career; the most majority of them have been released as a solo artist or in collaboration with bandleaders such as Lawrence Welk, Ray Coniff, and Billy Vaughn. Aside from that, he has been involved in the preservation of theatre pipe organs throughout the United States and has served as a guest conductor for a number of symphony orchestras. Ralston and his Dutch-born wife Fiejte have been married since March 3, 196They live in Southern California with their two adult children, Dianne and Randy, and have been married for almost 50 years.
