Afterpay users reported problems on Wednesday after their spending limits were reduced without warning.
Users that could typically use Afterpay for up to $3000 of spending had their limit dropped significantly, with some reporting it dropped all the way to $0, and others to measly amounts like $11.
“I have a $3000 limit, had over $2000 to spend, never missed a payment and my available limit is suddenly $0,” one of hundreds of frustrated customers wrote in a comment to Afterpay’s most recent Facebook post.
Others said their limit had “disappeared”.
“What’s happened? My Afterpay limit has gone,” one comment read.
Some customers said they were left embarrassed when they tried making payments at a retailer but were rejected.
More than 2000 fuming shoppers left comments saying they had been affected.
By about 2pm on Wednesday, Afterpay responded.
“Everybody, we hear you and we’re sorry you’re experiencing an unexpected reduction in your spend limit. We’re aware of a technical issue that may be causing this problem and we’re working to update the spend limits as soon as possible,” a comment from the company read.
“We expect it to be resolved in the coming days, if not sooner! Once it’s fixed, you’ll see the limit updated in the app. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
An Afterpay spokesman said: “For some customers, automatic payments for one or more of their recent orders were not processed on the scheduled date due to a technical error.

“This automatic payments error has now been resolved, but it may have temporarily impacted customers’ Pulse Loyalty status and/or spending limits.
“No late fees have been charged due to this issue, and we are working to restore customers’ limits and status as quickly as possible.”
